Songwriting Workshop at the MMA National Music Teaching Conference
It was a privilege to be invited back to the MMA National Music Teaching Conference. I last spoke in 2014 at St George’s College, Weybridge. This time the Conference was located at Wells Cathedral School and the session – in the studio of the beautiful new music facility – was full to the door.
With just 55 minutes to communicate the importance of songwriting and its place in the classroom the pressure was on, but a very positive audience of teachers from across the spectrum were eager to learn how to incorporate techniques on to their SOW.
One of the most exciting and satisfying things about my ‘songwriting method’ is seeing the immediate results from students and teachers alike. Often without even realising it, the method gives people a voice and a vehicle to say what they have been hiding inside. With great responses, the session was bouyant and energised and ended with many invitations to repeat it at schools nationwide.
